About F&D

Earl Sharpe started Foreign and Domestic Motorworks in 1976. It became F&D Motorworks one night when the painter decided that would make his life easier.

Located in south Minneapolis, the building had been around since the 40s, originally as a gas station. It was an old greaser shop long before we were around.

Across the street was the VA Hospital. Many of the doctors drove sporty little cars like BMWs and MGs. So we worked on those and anything else they dragged in.

Someone brought in an Alfa, one turned into two. Two into three, and before anyone could stop it, people were shipping us the things from all over the state and eventually the midwest.

F&D's real magic was its cast of characters hanging out after work like regulars at bar. Everyone from artists to engineers stopped by to look at the weird cars, and many of them kept coming back.

30 years went by and everyone grew old.

The city changed around us and it was time to move on. The building was sold to a developer and demolished.

The cars faired better. They became classics, and restoring them became popular.

That leads us to today. Earl still works on these cars all these years later. Restorations and maintenance can be done at one of the garages he partners with or on-site for private collections.
